We study how transport by road, rail, water and air has evolved and how it has shaped our lives in so many ways.

Many of our talks are by our own members, and our visits are organised by the members to reflect their interests. Some of these visits are illustrated by the photos on this page.

The Transport Group meets 2.30-4.00pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at the Ely Methodist Church, 13-15 Chapel St, Ely. There is a free car park (maximum 2 hours) in St Marys Street (postcode CB7 4ES), from which there is access to the church, unlocked during meetings.

The group has been active since 2010 and all its past events are recorded below.

From January 2025, the group will be run by a team led by Jane Wicks and Rolly Wells, supported by members of group who are expected to volunteer to help as much they are able. We rely on members to take turns to make the tea/coffee, put out the chairs, and clear up afterwards. Also, most of talks come from group members, and speakers and visits are organised through group members, so there are plenty of opportunities to involve everybody. If you can help in any way please talk to the team, or send an email to Jane Wicks

During the Covid lockdowns, between March 2020 and November 2021, the group published 64 issues of Transport News edited by Mike Dyson. Over 350 articles and other items contributed by the members provides a fascinating insight into an enormous range of our interests in transport. You can check this out, using the indexes, and then selecting the issue that you want to read in full below:
