Welcome to Ely & District u3a

My name is Steve Merrell and as the chairman of Ely & District u3a I would like to welcome you to our website.
Our u3a is affiliated to a national movement for people no longer in full-time work, the purpose of which is to continue in the pleasure of learning and sharing knowledge and experience with others. This u3a and its groups are autonomous and are run by the voluntary effort of our members.
Let me introduce you to our Committee
Our annual subscription is £10 and the year begins 1 April (£6 for new members joining after 1 November). If you are a member of another affiliated u3a, you may apply for a reduced subscription of £8. Membership entitles you to attend our monthly talk and social, usually at the Countess Free Church, for free. The next meeting in Events is:
Next Group Meetings
Several interest groups run their own meetings. Here are the next two from the Events page. It is up to Group Leaders to ensure they post their relevant events.
New members should read the Interest Groups box on this page.
Next Outing
In addition , we have a programme of Outings and Holidays. The next outing in Events is:
Newsletters
Members receive a monthly newsletter with news about meetings and outings, and news from the groups.
Contributions for the next issue may be sent to Ely u3a News by the 15th of the month.
Some groups (eg Birdwatching and History) also have newsletters catering for their particular interests.
Distribution is usually by pdf through email, but a print copy is available to those that need it.
In addition, our members receive the magazine u3a matters published nationally five times a year by the u3a Trust, with stories and advice from across the u3a movement.

With a population of about 20,300 Ely is one of the smallest cities in England, situated on an "isle" in the fens north of Cambridge. The city is dominated by its magnificent cathedral begun 900 years ago on the site of an abbey founded in 673 AD by St Etheldreda.
Interest Groups
Ely & District u3a has more than 40 active interest groups They offer many opportunities for new members to participate.
Whilst some groups are primarily for furthering knowledge, others are for exercise, socialising or practising skills and crafts. See the Groups page for a full list.
Groups are led by volunteers who are not necessarily experts, and we expect members to contribute to running the group in whatever way they can.
If you wish to join a group, contact the relevant Group Leader, who is to be found on the group's page accessed through Groups. You have to be a u3a member to join any of our interest groups.
If you would like to form a new group, please contact the Groups Coordinators.
Photographs
Most of the photos on this website have been taken by members, and we are grateful for these.
However, if your image appears in a photo and you do not want to be shown, then please contact the Website administrator to have it removed. We will respect all such requests.
Life is for learning: at u3a we learn, laugh and live.
